게코도마뱀
A snake’s diet varies from species to species, but there are some general rules to consider. Feed your snake humanely killed prey, such as rodents. Prey that is previously frozen is a great option, as the freezing process kills bacteria. Once thawed and warmed, frozen rodents are a nutritious and clean food source.
게코도마뱀Prey items
One of the best ways to attract a snake to a feeder is by providing food items that mimic live animals. You can also try to entice your snake with the scent of a chicken or quail. If you have a reluctant eater, you can try cupping the prey item before placing it in its cage. If your snake does not immediately take to the food item, try moving it around the cage to simulate movement.
When choosing prey items for your snake’s diet, choose the type that will best suit its size. It is advisable to give your snake two or more smaller prey items per meal. This will prevent the prey items from becoming too small for your snake.
Size of prey item
Snakes like to eat prey items that are about the same size as their body at its widest part. Larger items will cause injury or gut impaction and should be avoided. Instead, find prey items that are a little smaller in size and feed them to your snakes more frequently.
Rats and mice should be one-and-a-half times the snake’s length and width. Don’t worry about the length of rodents – as long as they are smaller than the snake’s body length, your snake will happily eat it. Just make sure that they don’t eat their prey for more than an hour or two.
Snakes eat smaller prey items often, but they also eat bigger prey items more rarely. The size of their prey items is relative to their size, but the ratio of smaller to larger is still quite high. Snakes also have special abilities to immobilize their prey items. Some of them are even capable of large gapes, which means they can swallow items much larger than their heads.
Preventing freezer burns게코도마뱀
When buying snake food, make sure to purchase it in a sealed, freezer-safe package. This will prevent freezer burns and keep your snake’s food fresher longer. Make sure the freezer bag is thick and the package contains as little air as possible. If you don’t follow these steps, your snake food could suffer freezer burns, which will result in it looking grey or crystallised.
When preparing snake food, use plastic wrap, waxed paper, or aluminum foil. Be sure to leave about 1/2 inch of headroom between the plastic wrap and the food. This is important because liquids expand and lose water when frozen. You also don’t want to leave any ice crystals on the surface of the food, so always leave a little headroom between the wrap and the food.
